Newborn Essentials
When I was pregnant and preparing my own registry I poured over lists like this that I found on Pinterest. The wise words and recommendations from women on the internet really helped me to prepare a solid registry and helped me to feel ready for my baby's arrival. Of course there were items that ended up not being as helpful as I thought so I decided to create my own list of the items that I have found extremely useful and essential during this newborn phase!
So here we go! 28 essential items for your newborns arrival:
1. Keekaroo Peanut Changing Pad
This guy is a bit more expensive than your typical changing pad but it is awesome! It is easy to clean and the shape works so well for changing - when your baby pees it doesn't pool all the way down their back to their head like in the typical changing pad.
2. Cetaphil Baby Diaper Cream
Start using this from the beginning on a few changes a day to help avoid diaper rash.
3. Desitin
This stuff has been around forever and for a reason! Izzie had some really bad diaper rash and after about 4 days of using this stuff it was mostly cleared up and now completely gone!
4. Water Wipes
These wipes don't have any scent and are pure water - gentle on baby's bum!
5. Dry Cleansing Clothes
We go through these like crazy! Super absorbent. I fold one over and put it on top of baby's penis to avoid getting squirted on. It usually works ;)
6. Oxo Tot Perfect Pull Wipes Dispenser
Easy one-handed open, works well!
7. My BrestFriend
Super helpful in lifting baby up to your breast for easier feeding. My baby is actually so small that I use another pillow under the brestfriend!
8. Lansinoh TheraPearl Breast Therapy
Great for relieving engorgement and provide relief after nursing.
9. Motherlove Nipple Cream
Works great at helping relieve sore cracked nipples in those first few weeks of breast feeding. Also works great as a lubricant on the flanges of your breast pump.
10. Aiden + Anais Muslin Swaddle Blankets
We use these all the time to keep baby warm and swaddled. I also use them to cover up when breast feeding in a more public setting. I love their large size, soft texture, and breathability. Lots of cute patterns and colors to choose from - also works great as background texture for pictures :)
11. Zebi Organic Burp Cloths
These make spit up cuter! I also love their size and texture, planning to collect all the patterns!
12. PiyoPiyo Baby Nail Scissors
Baby nails grow ridiculously fast but are way too small for clippers! These scissors come in handy to snip the nails down.
13. Rock N Play Sleeper
This sleeper is amazing for daytime naps! It vibrates and is so cozy.
14. Marpac White Noise Sound Machine
Babies love white noise! We find this to be really helpful at nighttime to soothe baby to sleep.
15. Carters Swaddle Blankets
I love the stretch of these cotton swaddle blankets I find them the easiest to make a really tight wrap.
16. WubbaNub Infant Pacifier
We introduced this at week 6 after we were confident he was breast feeding well! It is super helpful in soothing baby and it is super cute.
17. Cute Organic Baby Blanket
I am a sucker for cute prints, love wrapping baby up in this one and using it for pictures! Not totally essential, but a cute thing to have around!
18. UPPAbaby Cruz Stroller
My husband and I went to a local baby store to test out a ton of different strollers. The UPPAbaby Cruz really stood out to us - it is fairly lightweight, cute, has great storage, smooth glide, a great sunshade, and many other wonderful features! It is a bit pricey, but so far has been totally worth it!
19. Maxi-Cosi Mico AP Infant Car Seat
This is supposedly one of the lightest weight car seats on the market! I also like that it is plain black and doesn't have all the ugly designs that a lot of other car seats have. It is also affordable and highly reviewed - so far we like it a lot!
20. UPPAbaby Bassinet
We use this Bassinet as our baby's nighttime sleeper. It has a flat bed (best to avoid SIDS) and is a good size. I also like that you can easily attach it to the stroller - though I have to admit we have not used this feature much!
21. Hooded Bath Towel
Helps to keep baby warm and dry after a bath! Plus it looks super cute :)
22. Honest Company Baby Shampoo + Body Wash
Gentle all-natural soap for bath time!
23. Brooklyn Bamboo Wash Cloths
These organic wash cloths are so soft!
24. Angel Care Bath Support
Honestly we have not used this yet since our baby is so small (still under 7 pounds!) but it was highly reviewed and I look forward to using it soon.
25. Skip Hop Moby Elbow Saver
Just as described! Makes bath time more comfortable.
26. Solly Baby Wrap
Wonderful soft material and in cute colors/patterns. It takes a bit to get used to the wrapping but they have great instructional videos to help. I love baby wearing - instantly puts baby to sleep and I can use both my hands. I am wearing my solly wrap right now!
27. Munchery Gift Certificate
Now this is a gift for the parents! Seriously the last thing you want to do after taking care of a newborn all day is to cook dinner. Munchery is yummy and so convenient. Check out the link to see if they deliver in your area - and if they do - get $20 off your first order through the link above!
28. Amazon Gift Certificate
As you can see from these links Amazon has pretty much everything you need and with Prime you can get free 2 day shipping. When you are in those first few tough weeks just going out to the drug store is a big shlep - Amazon helps save the day!
There are a few other items not included here that we have found really helpful - baby laundry detergent, kimono style shirts, swing, and glider.
Whew! Feeling quite accomplished after writing all this down. I hope this list helps you feel more prepared for baby so when he/she comes you can just enjoy your little bundle of love!
